about

Examining new work emerging in the crossover between contemporary classical and experimental electronic music, Accidental Records present the second installment in their Antechamber series. Antechamber Music 2 features 13 artists delivering compelling work across a variety of disciplines, as electro-acoustic, organic and synthesized sounds collide and coalesce into startling, original forms.

Anna Phoebe and Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian offer up some of the richest compositions on the album, turning to stirring orchestration led by strings and following a narrative thread, while Adrián Foulkes similarly weaves an atmospheric story through a more minimal lens.

The piano is the focus for Crewdson and the collaboration of Maria Sappho and Colin Frank as Brutalust, the former reveling in a loping, dusty set of subtly shifting note patterns and the latter moving in nervous, darting flurries between fierce blasts of kitchen sink percussion and white noise.

Colin Alexander and Andrew Spackman present intriguing electro-acoustic string treatments that revel in additional processing, with Spackman presenting a particularly liquefied sound that eventually yields to snarling electronica. Meanwhile Ruby Colley threads musique concrete-style sonic matter underneath her striking string work and yeemeen nosa teases at ASMR pop and crackle mixed with raw synthesis.

There’s space for the human voice too – Lou Barnell’s granular, processed patterns and Tullis Rennie’s seasick synth ecosystem are both embellished with choral voices. Una Lee and a wave, a mouth; go further by centering the voice as their primary sound source, albeit processed in particular, unusual ways.
