John Cratchley I remember hearing a lot of radio coverage of this album back in the day...I liked Herbert's musical ethos surrounding the de/re construction of the big band (and the paradigm shift it engenders) and was glad to find this on BC...
It still sounds totally contemporary and fresh, accessible and surprising (all you could want really).
I'm not sure why,but this album at times just brings Moondog to mind for me...not in sound so much as in spirit.
Check out Unbound.co.uk for Matthew's latest project (writing music into existence)...it still needs funding,so help out perhaps...his ideas are unique and this deserves to come to fruition. Favorite track: Misprints.

about

Recorded at Abbey Road Studios in 2002 'Goodbye Swingtime' attempted to move away from the modern association of big bands with decadence and opulence and address it as a musical form worthy both of respect and indifference and whose merit should be judged on a piece by piece basis.
